Because it is rated at 3A, it seemed like a possible match with the G540. Although the 'maximum' voltage for the PK299-02AA motor is 78VDC, it can be run at 50VDC with good results. I've tested it extensively with PK296A2A-SG3.6 motors and with the (too small) PK268-02AA stepper motors (left over from the process control computers that I once designed). The problem with that unit is that it is limited to 50VDC and 3.5A per motor.

Geckodrive sells a G540 combination unit that has four stepper drivers attached to a circuit board. (That's what we say in Utah when we get really, really excited.)
GECKO G540 HEATSINK DRIVER
The proverbial light bulb turned on and I realized that I (possibly) had found the ideal motor/stepper driver combination if I paired it with a Geckodrive G540. I'll make another order tonight. This morning while I was looking at an Oriental Motor PK299-02AA stepper motor and wondering whether I'd ever find a use for it, I FINALLY noticed that it is rated at 6mH Inductance and 3A.

I didn't realize I would need all that stuff too. This is my sketch layout of my circuit board based off what Caleb did. This is the Driver wiring diagram right from Pololu I ordered the Drivers with the Header so that I could use the above sockets Here is the Headers to mount the Drivers in If not just a warning you will have to modify to get to work So you may want to search for some other ones. Word of warning these did not fit right in to the proto boards I had to take a dremel sanding drum and run around the pins a bit that got them to fit in to the holes. Terminal blocks These will slide together to make 2/4/6 etc pole terminal blocks. I got some Heat Sinks to go ontop of the Chip Ordered 2 sets of these the small Sinks fit perfect on the 8825sĭips Switches for adjusting micro Stepping Ok Christine, There are a few things I picked up as well to build out my boards Where did you get the blank mounting board the DRV8825s are mounted on? Did they come from RadioShack perhaps? I don't like buying things that need a warning disclaimer. Sorry but I stopped reading after the warning.
GECKO G540 HEATSINK MANUAL
I have written into forums like this for some months asking comments/help on this unit too but have never got a reply so don't expect any assistance from others - other than me of course, I could send you my manual rewrite if you get one.

Some of the output wires are incorrectly listed in the manual and this wasted a lot of time to get it correct.
GECKO G540 HEATSINK PC
I blew up a pc mainboard by turning the whole setup on in the wrong order once but other than that it has been great. I am running 24 volts to the motors and they get a bit warm after a long run but the controller never gets hot at all even though it has no cooling fan or heatsink other than the rear case. The controller itself works well and has been reliable and runs very cool compared to what I expected.

GECKO G540 HEATSINK PROFESSIONAL
I have the Haoyu one available on eBay that is the professional version but the documentation is so poor that I have rewritten the manual as far as I know CNC and sent it off to Haoyu (yes they did respond but only to say they do make that unit) and some months down the track they have still been of no help in fixing their manual or controller issues - a bit dumb really as fixing simple things would help them sell more. I have written into forums like this for some months asking comments/help on this unit too but have never got a reply so don't expect any assistance from others - other than me of course, I could send you my manual rewrite if you get one.ĭigib wrote:I would go with the TB6600 - I have one but some warnings: the manual is absolute rubbish and you will get zero support from the supplier/manufacturer, oh - and the professional all in one unit is a waste of time over the std one.
